[All are done in GIMP 2.4]
Here are some awesome gimp tricks.
1.
Type: Text
What it does: Give text a nice glow and maybe blending.
How to:
Okay start by making your text. Now duplicate the text layer
on the bottum text layer go to: Filters>Artistic>Oilify leave it at default options click okay
2.
Type: Backgrounds
What it does: easy backrounds
How to:
Create a new layer fill it with a pattern keep it on normal. now create another new layer and fill it with a different pattern set to overlay, repeat this step until you have a nice backround.
3. Type: Depth help
What it does: gives depth
How to:
Create a new layer and delete backround layer. Fill bottom half with a pattern. next create a new layer and fill the top half with a pattern. then create a new layer select a small bit of a side, and fill it with the pattern you just used, do the same with the other side. now create 2 small lines to make it look like this.
