My computer is completely stupid right now. I can't run most programs i use almost everyday (Gimp Itunes Trillian) Another problem is many programs that i can still use are doing not responding, too often or example when i click a link or something in Firefox it de-selects it. I have over 150 mb free space right now. we have de-fragmented it twice. My father just used the windows manager thing and deleted over 100 things. another problem is i have to do ctrl+alt+delete to type in my computer account password. Is there anyways to fix my computer without re-windowing it (re-windowing it will take approximately 8 hours.)

I use Windows XP and my computer is about 4 years old.

a 150 MEGABYTES or GIGABYTES? that could be a problem because some programs require some more space just in case they have to update or download stuff

how much hdd space do you have in total?

and as for the ctrl+alt+del one, it has to do with how the login is set up, fix it in control panel, thats how i enter on my laptop

control panel >> user accounts >> change the way users log on >> and check the "welcome screen" if it isn't checked

not 100% sure if it'll work cuz i never really bothered with it

Megabytes. I have welcome screen checked. I have 200-300 megabytes total.

delete stuff u don't need cuz that could be the issue, have like 1-2 gb empty, i have external hard drives so my current internal hdd never has less than 20 gb free, when it gets near that, i just transfer files out to my old external hard drive or get a new one lol

and im not suggesting you go out and buy a new hdd, that's up to you, but i am suggesting you delete useless stuff

like u said u have trillian - if you have windows messenger, irc, aim, or yahoo installed separately, uninstall those and delete

1-2 gb shouldn't be too hard to maintain

and what's ur total hard drive size? 200-300 mb is kinda not right because my computer is almost 5 years old now and it came with a standard 250 gb hard drive

I have no idea how much memory my hard-drive has. I don't have any separate stuff in regard to my Trillian. but i can't get anymore memory now unless, i delete major programs or all my GFX. (I'd rather delete neither.)

memory and hdd space aren't the same

go to "My Computer" and click on the C: Drive and see the used space and total space and etc.. you can hover over it, or right click and click properties, or left click and on the side it should show some stats

HOLY CRA*

150 MB. You need to take a blank disc save your stuff and wipe out everything. I'm not talking deleting everything I mean setting it back to the way you first opended it

if this problem started happening recently, just restore your pc back a week or 3 lol, helps sometimes

start >> all programs >> accessories >> system tools >> system restore

just pick a date from before, try to remember when it started happening and just go from there
