View Full Version : Anyone else disappointed in these next-gen games?

Out of all the next-gen games that are out, hardly any of them catch my eye and want me to buy them. It seems like too much focus is put into making it look pretty that they don't care about gameplay. I think gears of war, halo, even like heavenly sword, i think they're all pretty dumb.
They just don't make games like they used to...
I'm wondering does anybody else feel this way?

In a way.
I play older games like Super Mario 64, and it was great! Super Metroid: Amazing. The gameplay was really easy. But you play games like:
Halo
Gears of War
Frontline
All of their gameplay is hard to learn. I had to stop playing frontline because of the way you played the game. It seems like they spent more time on the graphics then making it easy to learn and enjoy

It seems like modern games are more showy and less fun. Look at Final Fantasy 7. The graphics blow, but who cares? It's a blast to play. I'll even go out on a limb and say that the story sorta blows too (love the characters and their developments though)
Or Metal Gear Solid. I miss the top down camera from the first game, now they're using the 3d camera.
And what happened to good spyro games? I loved ripto's rage, I beat it like 6 times. Platformers nowadays aren't all that great. I do plan on getting tools of destruction though, if I can find it cheap.
I miss the days of old, when graphics didn't matter. Sure, they help (metal gear solid 3 is phenomenal, and the graphics just add to it's awesomeness) but stuff like Dark Sector and Condemned 2, I couldn't play for more than 5 minutes without getting angered at it because they sacrificed gameplay to make it look good. I'd rather they made a game with graphics like an older final fantasy game's cutscenes then make a game with brilliant graphics if it cost gameplay to do so.

Well, not really, I mean not as many games catch my eye, but most that I play are pretty good.
I beleive we've had this discussion before. With Next-Gen games, companys srtive to make there games look overly appealing to the eye because they now have the power to do so. In the process however, they take so long to make every detail look full and rich that they use up most of there "deadline time" to polish the looks of the game. The KNOW that the mass audience of gamers out there will buy there games reguardless, especially when its a big name company putting out a franchise game. If you want a game thats gonna blow your freaking mind as far as the story goes, or even gameplay.. then support the little guys. Companies who put out games that you've hardly heard of dont have the ability to produce those super-hi-def looking graphics on there titles so for the most part, they HAVE to focus on there storylines and gameplay because otherwise, they wouldnt sell a single copy of there games.

Well everything seems to be a shooter, which I really don't like. They don't control well in my opinion, with 3rd person shooters controlling even worse than first. I prefer an action adventure game with ranged attacks (like...metal gear solid, silent hill 2, FF7: Crisis Core(which by the way, I highly recommend))
idk. I also hate the new addiction to the 3D camera. I prefer a camera that is mostly static but you have some freedom to move it around. (metal gear solid 3's camera comes to mind)
Kujo. What are some games you'd reccomend to me then?

I agree but there's still plenty of games that are good that aren't..If you didn't hate the 360 you would have some RPG love till some PS3 RPG's come out. MGS4 is right around the corner, GRID as well. Have you played Uncharted yet? it's a blast...I know it has a lot of shooting but how the story plays out is just incredible. I guess I'm not that picky as a gamer cause my backlog for PS3 and games I intend on getting for 360 is long. What games you have and maybe I can suggest something to ya

Some games like gears of war, halo, bioshock. That ahve deep storys and bring you into the story are amazing but I still prefer the old skool games like banjo kazooi, paper mario, mario 64. I don't care what the graphics look there there compeltly amazing gameplay wise. Some games could be more creative but eh.

Halo deep story? Ha. I think you should go play Metal Gear Solid 3.

sorry for the double post, but.
I really can't play 2D games. It's not that I hate the graphics, it's just that I never get into it. I find characters in a 2D game to be far less interesting than characters in a 3D game. Playing 3D games is far more fun for me than playing 2D games. The only 2D games I ever really got into were megaman games (notice the abundance of them under my GBA list?)
If something's in 3D, I just tend to care a lot more than if it's in 2D. (game-wise)
but anyways i posted that so i could get some reccomendations

Well, some ppl like the game just because of its look, on the other hand, others like it only bcs of the story, gameplay etc. That's why new games will always be sold, it (even) became a matter of prestige (goodlooking games need very strong machines).

Most of the next-gen games are a total waste of money and i really don't see them as being a step-up from the past generation. GTAIV was a good game mind, and hopefully when they release AlanWake and FarCry2 later this year, we will finally see some true next-gen games!
On the other hand, there's rumours of a new xbox to come to our homes late 2009.

Uh I'm not disappointed. This year has been AMAZING... There's Burnout, GTA, MGS4, Devil May Cry, Condemned 2 and Dark Sector and it's only the end of June.

Burnout = racing which isn't my thing
GTA4 = also not my thing
Devil May Cry 4 = pretty much the same as the rest, but with better controls. not bad though.
Condemned 2 = this game blows. It's not scary and combat is horrible.
Dark Sector = this has got to be one of the worst next-gen games i've played. it controls horribly and is just no fun at all. shame, i was looking forward to it.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is about the only really good one on that list imo.

lol, what games were good on 6th gen consoles? From what it looks like, you picking on little things in the game. Like for Condemned 2, it shouldn't matter if its scary or not. I never played it before, trailers looked good though.
