Today is the saddest day of the past two years for me. I am sure a lot of you have seen pics of my birds. Today, just an hour ago, one flew away after another bit him. It was just play, they do it all the time, but today was so hot, my parents left the window open wider than usual and the little guy was screaming and flying and just stepped out the window without noticing. And since we are almost 200 feet in the air, the guy fell and just started flying around the building.
He circled the building twice before settling on the ledge of an adjacent building. I tried to get in that building numerous times by trying to find the superintendent but the guy was no where to be found and none of the tenants would let me in the building. He was there for about a half an hour and then just flew off somewhere. He was only about 5 months old, i've had him since April and I've trained him tremendously over the past two months. He was a part of our family and I'll keep on looking for him tomorrow and the next day hoping he's still around on a tree somewhere cuz honestly, that would have been so much easier.
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g118/njoker555/DSC04882.jpg
It's the blue one on the right, between the yellow and green birds - the other day he bit off his own tail feather, and grew a new one the past few days - i also gave him a shower today.
And all of a sudden, its like my life just stopped and the other three birds have gone silent because the older ones know what just happened since I took them out before and the younger one is just following.

That sucks something similar happened to my drunken ex-uncle back in the day(well early 90's).. he had a cockatoo that flew all around in the house and when he left he'd have the bird sick on his shoulder..well one the bird decided it was time to fly and left out the window and flew into a building about 30 feet high and died

sux, mine is still alive, he was sitting on a ledge for a half an hour, kept trying to fly off but he's still a kid so he just flies 20 feet off the ground and then back onto the ledge
im so pissed off at the super of the other building, these guys are never around when you need them, i wish the bird went on our roof, i dont need permission to get there and if the bird could see me and recognize me, he would have flown to me like my other birds
i dont even feel like doing anything right now, gonna go lie down or something, so all the updates i wanted to do on the forum will have to wait, like bb code, and new logo, forgive me for that
we called him Bluey for the light blue body
fully yellow one has two names - Tweety (obvious) and Red Eyes Yellow Dragon (Red Eyes or REYD For Short), the other whitish one is BB for Blue Bear (bird) cuz he has a blue belly - and green one is The Incredibly Small Hulk (hulk for short)

kick in the door...that's what I would do..sure you'll get small charge but saving your bird will be well worth..seeing it's ****ing like hell hot out your bird time for life is shrinking.

I'm sorry to here that Linux. It sucks losing a pet. I've never had a bird leave before, but I've had a dog do that. I was worried sick. Once again, I'm sorry for you. Hopefully you'll find him.

what sux is that i have to now replace the bird to make it even number again and i have to do it soon because the pet store only sells birds from ages 3-5 months and the green one is about 4 months old now so i have to make sure there isn't a huge age difference
the REYD and BB are both about 2 yrs 3 months old now

Incredibly Small Hulk :) and this was the one that bit Bluey! Very bitey and strong, made me bleed once after i gave her a shower

my two older birds can lay eggs but i gotta get them one of those boxes with the soft walls - you can't just lay eggs anywhere
i gotta go to the pet shop tomorrow to see if i can find the replacement, its ironic but i am thankful it wasn't one of my old birds, but then again, my old birds would have answered my call sooner since they are better trained than any other pet that I've had in the past
at least my fishes can't fly away....;(
i am wearing a shirt that's the same color as bluey's belly, exact shade - this is the last bird i got and the first i lost
and i am holding an sd card thats almost the same color, omg, everything is gonna remind me of him now :mask: <<< that smiley too!

not material per say but soft enough so that it doesn't get crushed when the mother sits on it and it needs a good decent temp around 70 degrees Fahrenheit to be considered what I call "Hatchable"

I would be pissed too. I mean no one's gonna make that up just so they can steal from a person's room.

i hope he's ok too and he's just a kid which makes it even more worrisome so i dont know if his instincts are developed enough to help him find his own food and who knows, maybe he can find his way back home when the sun comes out again, that'll just make my day
we can only hope

I'm sorry LiNuX.
Having a pet run away is the worst.
I've had both my dogs run away, but thankfully we've been able to get them back.
Bluey sounds like a smart bird :]
I really hope you get him back.
Oh man, I don't really know what to say except I'm sorry for your loss man. I hope you're able to find him soon. Best of Luck Linux.

i went out looking for him today, no where to be found and the sun is scorching, i think i got a sunburn in less than 2 hours of being out in the morning...
i bought Bluey II today, like an exact replica, i just couldn't resist - and i still hope I can find Bluey I because he was a good friend and bluey II is part of our family now although I'll have to start all over again with the training and its summer so I don't mind
I'll post a pic later to show the resemblance

fishes have short lives and i can't play with them like the birds, i mean, i can put my fingers in the tank and they nibble on it, but its not the same as the bird getting on your head when he needs food
i wish i put a gps tracker on him or something, i might do that with my other birds, just hope it doesn't cost a fortune lol

I saw something like that for dogs. I'd rather my dog get lost and never see it again than put one of those one it... who wants a microscopic microchip inside of you.

lol, dogs usually have it on their collar and i was thinking of tying them to my birds feet or even tail. thats only IF i can find a small enough one which I doubt

Lol, that's better. This thing I saw on tv was freaky.
i know what you are talking about - they sometimes put it in the skin of the dog because dog nappers can just remove the collar and throw it away since its obvious
i dont know of a lot of bird nappers out there though, just the risk of flying away and getting lost
KittyCat72
06-10-2008, 12:33 PM
Yeah, that really is the only risk there... it would be kind of hard to kidnap a bird... :/
Iceskater101
06-10-2008, 05:39 PM
yeah it would be hard to kidnap a bird because it would make to much noise.

lol....no...it would just fly away and if its open space, no way you will be able to catch a bird
wow linux, sorry to hear about this :( i hope your bird gets back to you, the birds look very pretty

and there is a huge thunderstorm outside, more worries for him :(

Aw, that stinks.
How is Bluey's twin doing?
i just got shaken up after a lightning strike a few blocks away making a huge bang, and the bluey II is doing alright, fitting in, and he just got super scared, flew around the room like 5 or 6 times before settling down
he's still young, much smaller in size compared to the other birds

06-14-2008, 06:53 PM
Really? Oh.
How old is he?
LiNuX
06-14-2008, 07:00 PM
Really? Oh.
How old is he?
not three months yet, i don't know the exact ages of any of the birds because their birth certificate was lost, i can give you estimates only
he'll be three months in a few weeks - and he'll be 6 months when his nostrils stop changing colors
the green bird is about 4 months old now, got her when she was just over 3
and the two older birds are both about 2 years 1 month old now - got them when they were 3 months old too

I'm sorry to hear this. I hate when pets fly away. I had a lizard...lost it. Then I had 4 hermit crabs. All died. I am guessing it was something in the water.
Hope your birds instincts turn on and comes home.
There nostrils change colors?!? I had no idea! And its an age thing???

There nostrils change colors?!? I had no idea! And its an age thing???
yea its the area around the nostrils actually - they change from 3-6 months of age - when it stops changing colors its about 6 months old
and by changing i mean fully blue or fully brown - otherwise its whitish pinkish

thats only with a few species of birds, you can't do that with parrots, there are a few ways, best way is dna testing which costs a few moola and some other method - when i had a parrot when I was younger, i always assumed it was a boy lol
and yeah, bluey II is actually sleeping right now, almost 1:30 pm - outside of the cage on top of a picture frame
Wouldnt it be weird if bluey 2 was actually bluey 1? Like someone found it, and sold it to the store.
That would be a crazy coincidence.
Anyways, sorry for your loss, and glad for your gain tho also :)

Haha I know, I meant for budgies D:
I used to work in a pet store and we always had young budgies, and poeple would come in asking for specific genders, and we're like "-.^" and had to explain it and lots of people just wouldnt get it?
On top of a picture frame? XD;
Hopefully it's a nice picture.
Bluey might have good taste.

i was just about to jump out the window because Bluey II was just about to leap out for some reason.
Somehow the little guy flew into my parents bedroom and landed on the windowsill, at the edge of falling off....its always the blue one with the trouble.
I stared at the little guy for nearly 5 mins then he decided to fly my way and my mom jumped up and closed the windows quickly. The other three birds already went back to their cage and went to bed, i dont know if this guy was looking for them and got lost or something but he's been here for over a month to know where he sleeps.
He isn't as well trained as my other three birds. Definitely not more than my two oldest so I wasn't able to get close to him and have him jump on my finger, i had to stay far or else he'd turn and fly out the window. I am happy it was night because if it was day time and more light outside, he could have jumped out thinking it was another room.
It's always bluey...starting to think its a curse.
I uploaded a picture of the guy here

not the best pic but i couldn't find any better ones for some reason lol

i got one that looked like the old bluey for the other birds, didn't think they'd know the difference - only Hulk didn't notice because she's still young but the other two are older and more mature so they figured it out the second i brought bluey in
