View Full Version : Metal Gear Solid 4= best selling game for PS3 in Japan now.

First week numbers are in and it seems PS3's low install base in Japan didn't hinder sales like many thought(myself included)


Enterbrain numbers for June 12 to June 15 (4 days): 476,334

That number includes the regular edition, special edition, premium pack and the welcome box bundles. It is now the best selling PS3 game in Japan.

For reference, the first day numbers from Enterbrain not counting bundles was 300k (170k SE, 130k Regular). Everyone who posted predictions can now match how close you were. Looks like I was pretty off.

MGS4 has also proved it's system selling power..last weeks PS3 sales were 10,856, this weeks were 77,208.

How MGS games have done Week 1 in the past


MGS1 - 316,833
MGS2 - 456,747
MGS3 - 487,156

Totals for Japan(note sales are just for the main games)


MGS1 - 674,591 (Total as of Dec 1998, released in Sept 1998)
MGS2 - 789,179 (Total as of Dec 2002, released in Dec 2001)
MGS3 - 819,807 (Total as of Dec 2005, released in Dec 2004)

And with MGS4 having the 2nd biggest first week in PS3 history in Uk...it's nice to know PS3 owners actually buy games..now they just need to buy more and become software whores like 360 owners.

I never doubted it. I knew this game was gonna be amazing. Sigh...if only I had a PS3. Unfortunately, that day is NEVER gonna come...

I'm surprised that so many people in Japan bought the game. I always known Japan for there RPG's. I just wish that it would come out on the 360.

Everyone who owns a PS3 needs it, it's a great game. I've only played the first level becase I also have GTA for PS3 and I'm addicted to it but so far it's been great.

Speaking of Japanese sales, 2nd weekend it did 68,000 and had 533k total sales. It'll probably struggle to 600k.. Japan users from GAF are reporting stores being flooded with used PS3's and used MGS4 games...looks like Japan only wanted PS3 for MGS4 atm, can't really blame them Sony is really ignoring there culture games. In the next 2 months they are getting like 5 western games that released in USA months ago and Soul Caliber 4
