i dont know how either, i almost drowned like twice or three times as a child, never tried again lol
i assume i have to learn if the ocean levels start rising due to global warming melting the polar ice caps lol

Sort of.
I can swim, but not very fast.
I can't swim in like 6+ feet.

I think i learned to swim on my own really. I don't think I do the arm strokes properly, but I can swim. I just watched people swim and mimicked them.

my uncle? probably training my cousins lol, it was a bunch of us trying to learn and my older cousin doing flips and jumping into the water and yelling out "watch me guys" lol
if u drowned today then what some people thought happened to you a few months ago would have come true today - like final destination lol - glad you are OK though
if i drowned, no body here would be talking about anything! and like 10 friends from high school probably would have failed cuz i wasn't there to help them out lol

Haha I know..It was pretty rough...My friends clearly told me not to go in the deep end..And I kinda didn't listen thinking it would help me swim..::)..But I just panicked and almost went out right there lol.

I never really learned how, but i can get around in a pool without sinking. If i was stranded in the ocean and my life preserver popped, i'd be screwed, though.

I took swimming lessons as a child, only got to about level 5 or something, then kept failing the next level so I quit. I could save my life if I had to but that's about it.

Most likely, but then again how many people in swim against the tide? I'm 100% sure I can't = ). I can stay afloat with just kicking my legs. I could last a little while.
I could last longer than you ^^

I know how to swim; I just haven't done it in a long time; that will not bode well for me when I go on vacation later this summer.

I learned by almost drowning in Virginia. :twitcy:
Now I am an excellent swimmer. My swim teacher wanted me to join the team.

I think he meant you would be screwed because you would have no food and water, and would die anyways
I can swim, ever since I was young

Well, i'd be able to swim somewhere....eventually...haha
or maybe a government satellite could pick my signal up.
All i'm saying is that the second it popped...well....goodbye.
Yes. I darned love it.
I do flips in and stuff.

In scouts, I have the badge. You have to jump in the water with a button down long sleeve shirt, pants, socks, shoes, and a belt (And swim trunks under your pants). You take all your cloths off except the swimsuit, then take the pants, have the legs around your neck, put the belt around the legs and blow air into them.
Makes a life preserver if you didn't know.
It is HARD staying a loat while doing it, though.
I plan on take life-saving badge soon. Swim 8 laps, save 5 people, then have people (About 10) get around you in a pool (deep end), and they are all trying to hedlock you, dunk you, trying to get you paniced and under water. You have to break free and keep doing this for like 2 hours.
But I love swimming, so this should all be easy(er)

and sharks and whales...and jellyfish - they will all screw you pretty badly lol, even if they can't eat you
and water temperature is usually lower than air temperature and your body temperature can go down rapidly and then you die that way
so...basically, swimming won't help you much without a life raft

well epsilon brought up the "Ocean" - no one said anything about the middle of the ocean lol, could be a few miles off shore
and he was saying if he had a life preserver he'd be fine and be able to swim back somewhere lol

I can swim fairly well. If I were to fall into the middle of an ocean, I would probably drown though. I can't learn how to float up in water XD

Tread water? lol.
My cousin and I had a competition to see who could do it longer and it went on for more than an hour.
We just gave up.

Well what if a large government sattelite was scanning the area and saw me and fired a laser into the water heating it up to a good enough temperature and then sent something to pick me up? If my life preserver went bye bye i wouldn't last long enough for that thing to pick me up. ;(

lol thats like, 1 in a trillion chances that the government is likely to do that - you have a higher chance of getting picked up by a submarine sonar than a government satellite lol
and the ocean is big - if they heat the water and the water warms up, it'll probably go south or north depending on where you are, cool off, and sink, and you'll be surrounded by more cold water lol
and knowing the government, they'll probably aim the laser at you and fry you up and call it friendly fire

doesnt warm water allow you to float easier? thought i saw sumthin about that somewhere

yeah cuz it flows up but the ocean is comlicated, it doesn't just float up, it goes south i believe to cool down and sink back down to the bottom of the ocean and then stuff happens
i dont know, its complicated to explain lol, its geology -
warm water and fresh water floats up but salt water allows you to float more, i think the red sea is full of salt lol
my brain is fried from a whole day of headachy things, i'll have to check back with the facts later when my brain has rebooted over night

I certainly can't, I hate water...
I've been swimming for as long as I can remember. I honestly can't remember not being able to swim. Its so weird for me when I come across an adult who can't swim. I always thought it was like... natural... like breathing or fornacating.

Well, I think if you threw him in the middle of the pool his instincts would kick in.
He would do something to stay afloat, lol.

Not exactly "instincts"
If he doesn't know how to swim, he will just splash around going under, then coming up, going under, coming up, and when you try to save him, he will either:
-Headlock you (Yes, they DO do that)
-Try to get on your back, just dunking you
-Just grab onto you and pull you around
I don't really get why they head lock, I think it is because they can get a point they don't let go of.
If a drowning person headlockes me... i'm taking them under and really freaking them out. I can hold my breath for a good 90-120 seconds.

Omg, that's ridicules. I can only hold for like, 50 seconds.
Also, if you did that, I doubt you would get the Livesaving badge

Ridicules maybe. But I did train for several months when I was going for Ranger training however, due to a blown knee, I didn't make it into ranger school. But hey, I do tend to freak out life guards every now and again when I don't come up for air after 2 minutes.
