View Full Version : If you had to give up one of your 5 senses which would you pick?

So lets say in a hypothetical situation you are forced to permanently give up one of your 5 senses or die. Which one would you give up? Touch, Smell, Sight, Hearing, or Taste? Or would you choose to die?
Keep in mind this is a hypothetical situation so lets say you choose to give up taste you can still smell. I know that doesn't make sense in the real world but this isn't the real world. this is hypothetical.
Also, a reason validating your choice would be cool too.

well I know a deaf guy that has a hearing aid and he says he can hear everything but it sounds like it's underwater, so I'd just put in a hearing aid.

but what about complete deafness? not even hearing aids work if the organs in your ear are damaged
but modern medicine has solutions to fix it all - not smell though, haven't heard of anything like that yet
i know they can fix sight, hearing, and touch has to do with with the central nervous system so they just have to fix that - not sure about taste and smell

lol, if you think you could go without hearing, you must not have friends or something. You wouldn't really be able to hang out with them at all. Kind of pointless if you can't hear.
Anyway, I said taste. It's useless anyway. If people couldn't taste then there wouldn't be so many overweight people.

You've never heard of reading lips? reading lips and then respond...I don't see how you think it'd be difficult.

umm well whats see. It would be hard to watch tv, they don't always show there face when they talk. Forget listening to music, that is out of the question. How about video games. The story lines in them almost never have subtitles. Good luck reading lips in an animation game.
Even if you could read lips it would still be terrible. You would have to look at them to talk. Then what if they want to say something to you and your not looking at them. It would be hard, and you saying it's not tells me you have no friends....... Or that you have no idea what you are saying.

tv- you can turn subtitles on
games- same thing, although assassins creed offer that feature
I don't know what I'm talking? perhaps you don't? ever think of that?
now this is my low down of the 5
sight- I need it without a doubt, I'd rather die then live blind
touch- need my touch, i would crazy without it.
taste- love food, taste makes it worth everything
smell- need to smell the food
hearing- it's really optional
so this is my opinion, if you don't like it you can **** a goat cause I don't care you think

i'd give up either touch or smell. Smell is kinda useless and the only thing i use it for is to have reason to evacuate the bathroom after using it. And it'd be kinda cool to feel no pain. I could like lick a cactus and be fine. =] =] be like HA i can lick a cactus you can't! n00b

I think not being able to feel things would be bad. What happens if you fall and break your arm. You don't know if anything is wrong, because you can't feel pain. So then it gets effected heals wrong and now you have staff.... Good job.

Well. Then i'll get some sort of injection where if i break something, i'll turn blue in that area.
and it's spelled staph.

I would go with smell.
It's not THAT important of a sense, but it does affect your taste a bit.
Why do you have death on there..?

lol cuz the question is whether you'll give up one of your senses or die...
and yeah, smell and taste are very closely related. so losing one affects the other big time

See... The logical thing to do is go without smell or taste..... NOT HEARING.

well it may be logical to you but could be dumb to someone else...everyone has different needs and wants so you can't really label that the "logical" thing would be to get rid of smell and taste

Me...i choose Taste.
Its either Smell or Taste, not really THAT important, and hey, without Taste,
You could eat anything and not puke, fool the internet viewers.
You know, that reminds me of 2 girls 1....nevermind.

I dunno I'd say Smell but I love to smell my food and smelling is also part of tasting it..
I couldnt give of Touch or seeing, Hearing would suck.
I'd have to say either Hearing or Smelling.

Smell. Totally, I love music there for I need to hear. I love drawing there for I need to see. I love food and you get the idea. lol
Sence of smell to me seems pretty pointless when it coms to the others.

Well, smell has to do with your taste.
So if you do get rid of smell it hinders your taste a bit.
Probably just makes things bland, lol.

I would go without smell... I know it is half of taste.. but if I didn't have it I could be around my brother without carrying Frebreeze or something. :P I need my other senses and deth isn't a sense so I'm not even considering it.
