For rendering an image, I use Photoshop or Paint.
I prefer Paint. Just because it starts up faster and it does the exact same thing.
But Photoshop beats it if you are mass-rendering, because of magic wand and eraser.

I use Photoshop CS3 extend. Did I buy it..... no LOL

I may start entering SOTW when I learn to use it properly. I've been focusing on Coding.

gimp is free - best to use probably - you can render with anything, its just taking away the background and if you can select and delete - you can use anything, you can use paint for it too i am sure lol - just dont think you can save it as a .png file - never tried it though

I don't think I'd ever be able to render in Paint.
But I use PSP X to render some images for myself.

Your best bet would be to look at tutorials.

Rendering is just Taking the background out of something. You either start out with a transparent background and type on that, or if it is a picture then you have to manually delete the background with a 1x1 eraser. Thats how I do it.

that means the background is transparent lol, the point of a render is NOT to have a background layered with the pic and thats what he does

ctrl+i is invert i believe - if you do that, the background should be selected instead of the render it self then you click "delete" to delete the background
