Half life 1 help

I know half life 1 is old but im trying to squeeze the last bit of entertainment out of the engine but...I cant do that because of the problem im having with loading the game.When i start up half life,counterstrike,blue shift,specialists,and so on... the screen just goes black. Like my screen was turned off though it isn't. Ive tried tons of things,like waiting like half an hour to see if loading was the problem. Ive tries turning my screen off and on. um... please help.

How long has this been happening? And was it always happening?

I know its not a preformance issue because it just started happening a week ago and i really havent changed anything. Um i remember changing the gamma on Specialist before this happened, might it have been that?

never heard of that when changing gamma, that's just like changing brightness in a different way - guess you can change it back and then try

did you update your graphics driver? see if you can roll back and try again, could be a gpu driver issue

i cant see my screen so i cant change the gamma back and but it just happened recently so was there an update to the of the driver?

driver updates are different on different computers, only you can know if there was an update. You'd have to search for the graphics driver and see if you can roll back or go to your graphics card web site and download the latest driver if available.

It may or may not be a driver issue, I can't tell you without actually seeing the thing which is near impossible at the moment
