Man burned himself stealing gas (http://www.jsonline.com/news/34052374.html)
A Crawford County man who police say burned himself while trying to steal gasoline was charged today in Waukesha County Circuit Court with attempted theft and negligent handling of burning materials.
According to the criminal complaint, Austin J. Heckman, 23, of Wauzeka, was traveling with a woman in Mukwonago area on Sept. 27 and needed gasoline.
Heckman decided to siphon gasoline from a van parked in an apartment complex but he could not tell if his gas can was getting full, the complaint says.
He then used a cigarette lighter to check the can, resulting in an explosion that set the gas can caught fire, the complaint says.
Heckman pulled the siphon hose out of the van and tossed the hose and flaming gas away from the van before fleeing the lot with the woman, the complaint says.
Police found Heckman in the lot of a nearby retail store, where he told police what had happened, the complaint says.
The complaint did not say how badly Heckman was burned.
I guess he had a burning desire to see the inside of a jail cell.
