Company responsible for large amounts of spammed gets kicked off the internet

A San Jose business reported to be responsible for more than 75 percent of the world’s spam email has been cut off from the Internet and its web site shut down.

According to a report by the Washington Post, McColo Corp. was a Web hosting business with customers made up of “some of the most disreputable cyber-criminal gangs in business today.”

The company’s Web site, mccolo.com, was not working on Wednesday.

The Post reported in a blog that Global Crossing in Bermuda and Hurricane Electric Internet Services in Fremont, two of McColo’s main Internet providers, pulled the plug after getting reports from Security Fix about its activities.

Security Fix said it studied the company for four months before making the report.

I don't really get much spam, perhaps 20 a day and rarely pay attention to it anyways so I don't this really pertains to me, but yeah anyone that gets hammered notice a change, some person on Neogaf said his spam per day went from 1200 down to 200

lol shut them down!

i actually get 100+ spam emails a day and most of them come to me overnight - but when i woke up today i saw less than 10 emails in the spambox lol - this may explain it but i want to see the long term effects first

p.s. i was only talking about my gmail account - i usually just empty out my other email's bulk folders since those aren't my primary accounts

I get tooooooooo many. Gmail spam filters don't like me.

I don't get very many spam messages maybe 10 a day. I use yahoo, not sure how great there spam filter is, but it works great for me.

I used to use AOL but I got something like 30 a day (All of them were really weird. One of them was offering me a job as a doctor in a hospital in Mexico.) so now I use Yahoo and I only get about 5 a week.
