I made one of these on another forum I was a part of and it became like the second largest topic (next to the what are you listening to topic)
So here's a place to just discuss relationships...if you have a significant other and want to just talk about them, or need advice, or having troubles and want to vent, or anything, just post it here.
I won't be going first though, because i gotta get my work done. =D

I believe the end of the song "Lying From You" by Linkin Park is a great way to break up with someone lol...
"The very worst part of you.....IS ME" - and just turn around and walk away...

I'm going after one...seeing as i have a month of for break, we'll be able to hang out a lot and i doubt the start of the semester will be too bad, so i'll have time. If it works out then woohoo. If it doesn't...well...
my mom said she'd bring her up here, or me back, if we wanted to hang out.

Well, I've been in a relationship with my boyfriend Steve for almost two years now. It will be two years on January 28th C:
He's at college now and I'm a senior at high school. Having a relationship can be hard enough sometimes, but to add to it, it's also a long distance relationship. He goes to Michigan Tech which is in Houghton, so he's around 10 hours away.
After a rather LARGE rough patch in October, it's been working out really well. He just left yesterday from his month long christmas break, so I won't be seeing him for another month and a half or so.
Wonderful, isn't it? haha.

How do you manage? Me and my girlfriend will have been together for a month on friday =D but i just went back to college after the between semesters winter break, and so she's about 45 minutes - an hour away (which is like nothing compared to your 10 hours but whatever) but i'm already having a hard time dealing... =[

The first thing I did was keep a positive mentality. I supported him, asked him how everything was going, etc and he did the same with me. Going into a long distance relationship thinking it won't work really ruins everything, and I told him that. We really had a long discussion about it and knew it was worth trying to make it work long distance than cutting things off after a year and a half. I also understood that he was going this far away to better his education and I respected that.
The first two months were the hardest because we really didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. I missed him, he missed me, and it was so hard not being able to see him and touch him. BUT THEN I got my laptop, and it has a webcam in it. That alone helped a ton :]
He came back for my homecoming, so that broke up the three month period I wouldn't see him. He was just back recently for a month and it was amazing.
I have to say, even though long distance relationship are extremely hard, it really makes you closer and helps you appreciate the other person so much more. It has definitely made us stronger :]

yeah I figured that but you guys had been together for a while beforehand...we just started going out a month ago. And I can visit every weekend or every other weekend, and I know i'm not going to lose hope, i can last without seeing her often, mostly because i know it will end in 4 months (we get off in like april or may or something) and i'm transfering to a much closer college next year) i'm just worried about drifting apart from her because we won't see each other. I'll get to see her from time to time so it's not like we'll be completely cut off.
It sounds like i'm being really pessimistic, i'm just worried. we both are pretty sure that we can handle it, we both really want to last (and we're not just saying it, i like her more than i've ever liked anything even dr pepper which i'm addicted to, and she says that she's never felt as strongly about me as anyone else ever) but we're both really in touch with our emotional sides, what if ones of us snaps? Gets bored? I can't predict how i'll feel in a month or 2
I think i'm blowing this way out of proportion though. Things will either be a lot easier than I think they'll be, or they'll be a lot harder. Let's hope for the former.

I don't think you're blowing anything out of proportion. Everything you have right now is new, so I can totally understand why you're feeling this way. All I can say is do the best YOU can to make it work. You can never control what the other person does, but you can control what you do, and if you want this to work it very well can :]
Back in October, about two weeks after my boyfriend left for college, he had been partying. For those weeks he pretty much partied 2 or 3 times a week. Well, one of the paries he ended up taking another girl. He took her out to lunch that day, talked to her about what was going on between him and I, and then took her to a frat party. That night, he slept with her in the same bed.
You can imagine the rage and hurt I felt when he told me. He said they didn't have sex and nothing happened, and you could imagine I didn't believe him. After thinking about it, I told him that I wanted to work things out with him. There was too much we had that I didn't just want to throw away. Guess what he wanted to do? Break up. There was nothing I could say to change his mind, so we did. He said he wanted to still be friends and talk to me, but WTF? Really? I told him no.
So for a week I didn't talk to him and I did my own thing. Friday comes and he wants to talk. Turns out he realizes what a ***** up he is and the great thing he pushed away from him. We talked for hours about what was going to happen. He still said that he didn't do anything with that girl, so I took faith and believed him. I told it was going to be hard, everyone hated him, and that he was going to have to work his a** off to win me back.
I sat on it for a couple days and, against my parents will, told him I would give him another chance.
I hate to say it, but because of that he really appreciates me so much more. Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning it, lol. I would have rather NONE of that happen, but it did.
I'm not sure if that story helps you at all, but I just wanted to tell you :]

well you don't have to worry about me doing that cuz 1. i don't like parties and 2. i couldn't physically bring myself to do that. lol. But I see what you're trying to say. like, if you make it through rough times it'll bring you closer together

Definitely :]
I hoped I helped you some, because I would hate to see distance ruin something that you guys have.
I never used to believe in long distance relationships, but now that I'm actually in one, it's really not SO bad.
You just have to know the right things to do and what's right in your heart :]

At least your mom is cool with it.
It gets hard to date someone when your parents don't like it.
I had a friend who dated like 10 years older than her and she was 18 too.
It's just seems weird because it seems like a bigger age distance than it really is.
When you get into your 20's, it's not really weird anymore.
I'm happy for you :]
How long have you guys been together?
LemonRising
01-23-2009, 01:52 PM
Yeah the only problem is my dad but my mom's cool with doing a bit of lying so that he doesn't know until I'm ready to tell him.
Yeah thats what I thought. I've always liked older guys anyways so I've never really seen it as that weird.
We've been together forr.... four or five months now? Not too long but we're having a good time.
And thanks!

@lemon - I've seen a bigger age difference when it comes to dating lol - and I'm talking about friends in real life..not Anna Nicole Smith kinda thing.
