Getting in the flow at the gym
    Hey,

Having recently got into going to the gym on a regular basis, I would be interested to hear about your experiences about working out at the gym.

I am intrigued about how other people "get into the flow" whilst training, and whether you have any suggestions about ways that I could use to make working out less of a chore!

I also take my music on my iPod, but is there any particular music you find is more successful than others? Or do you have any other strategies?

    Just curious really!

I don't go to the gym to work out, mostly I just run. If I'm going for a jog I'll listen to something melodic and instrumental but when I start to run uphill I always, always change it to Rise Against.

I listen to music that kind of pumps me up, probably different for each person depending on their favorite music. I usually listen to screamo, a lot of a day to remember when I workout. It's normally pretty loud, so it blocks out all the other sounds to distract you so you can focus on the task at hand.

As for making working out seem less of a chore, no clue. Let me know when you find out lol, people say once you do it for awhile you'll have to go or you'll have too much energy all day. I was never lucky enough to run into that problem.

I listen to loud club music. the kind that makes you dance all night and keep doing shots.
Instead of clubbing, I use that energy at the gym.
Either that, or live versions of stuff like slipknot. Loud and keeps you running.
Because i dont have the opportunity to listen to music anywhere else, I get motivated to go to the gym just for the music.

Thanks guys. It is just really intriguing. I have found that Meatloaf (of all people) is actually a really good artist to listen to, as it makes me feel really pumped up for some reason! I guess, as you say MW3, it is probably just a personal preference.

You need to get some company for your trainings, good competition makes process more interesting.

I listen to some fast paced stuff... can't be anything slow. people have different tastes. I go to the gym & run mostly and I can't really lift weights cause they're always being used... got a lot of weight hogs at the gym lately

Make sure you go like at least 5 days a week. If you start slacking you lose your progress faster than the time it took for you to gain.

Same like the above regarding the upbeat music. Drink water beforehand so you don't dehydrate during your work. Buddy system is good, if you can find a friend you can workout with.
