Nintendo Company Ltd. (任天堂株式会社, Nintendō Kabushiki kaisha?) is a multinational corporation headquartered in Kyoto, Japan founded on September 23, 1889[1] by Fusajiro Yamauchi to produce handmade hanafuda cards.[3] In the mid-twentieth century, the company tried several small niche businesses, such as a love hotel and a taxi company.[4] Over time, it became a video game company, growing into one of the most powerful in the industry and Japan’s third most valuable listed company with a market value of more than US$85 billion.[5] In 2007 Nintendo ranked 10th on the list of largest software companies in the world.[6] Aside from video games, Nintendo is also the majority owner of the Seattle Mariners, a Major League Baseball team in Seattle, Washington. According to Nintendo's Touch! Generations website, the name "Nintendo" translated from Japanese to English means "Leave luck to Heaven."[7] As of July 15, 2008, Nintendo has sold over 460 million hardware units and over 2.7 billion video games.[8]
In 2008, Nintendo was honoured at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for pioneering the development of handheld games with its Nintendo DS system, and for the unique user interface of the Wii.

Redmond is a city in King County, Washington, According to the Washington State Office of Financial Management's April 1, 2008 estimate, the city has a population of 51,320.[3] Redmond is best known as the home of Microsoft (for which "Redmond" has become a metonym) and Nintendo of America. With an annual bike race on city streets and the state's only velodrome, Redmond is also known as "the bicycle capital of the Northwest".[4][5] Despite this, the city is suburban in character, with its main form of transportation being the automobile. Redmond has a historic downtown with many personally owned businesses which is connected to the modern downtown Redmond.
Due to its large population of highly paid tech workers, especially those of Microsoft, Redmond is known for its affluence. Based on per capita income, one of the more reliable measures of affluence, Redmond ranks 20th of 522 areas in the state of Washington to be ranked.
