a HUGE game changing patch is coming out soon (planned for "some time after PAX") that's going to add deeper combat mechanics (blocking and sprinting and enemy attack animations!), npc villages and ruins/dungeons to explore, and more mobs (the most auspicious of which are the strange and terrifying hostile mobs, "Endermen").

I suggest making a bunch of trapdoors around your house, and open them at night. They will most likely fall in there and remain threat-less.

The still explode at a distance. :3
But, you can place a cactus fence at night. Hard to remove, but, ya know. :3
