CICERO, Ind. (WISH) - Four cats have been found brutally beaten to death in a small Hamilton County town. Cicero pet owners found the bodies early Monday morning. Now residents are worried the suspect may strike again.
Kathy McGuffey found the cats shot, slashed and burned all within a block of her house.
"I'm surprised the neighbors didn't see me wailing like a crazy person in the street. I was heartbroken," said McGuffey.
The cats have since been buried. Handmade headstones will soon mark each grave. Now concern has shifted to those still alive.
With so many kids in the neighborhood, folks are worried whoever attacked the cats may go after kids, dogs and maybe even adults next.
"They're even watching their children closer because if they did it to four cats, who's to say they wouldn't do it to a child," said Rebecca Mendenhall.
The ladies have passed out warning fliers to their neighbors hoping they will help police catch the killer and prevent a similar slaying from happening again.
"I don't ever want to see anybody else go through this," said McGuffey. "They're not just cats. It's our pet, our family member."
According to our news gathering partners at the Noblesville Daily Times, Cicero police are investigating. But right now there are no suspects.

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A man accused of forcing his 7-year-old daughter to stab the family cat by holding a knife in her hand has pleaded guilty to three charges in the March attack.
Thirty-nine-year-old Danield John Collins pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of domestic violence/animal cruelty and two counts of neglect of a dependent. He's being held at the Delaware County jail on a $40,000 bond.
If a judge accepts the plea agreement, Collins will receive an 18-month sentence when he's sentenced August 28, and prosecutors will dismiss an intimidation charge he now faces.
Police say Collins ordered his daughter and 11-year-old son to kill the cat but the son hid it. Police say Collins found the cat and strangled it.
