It's a bit like Teamspeak or Skype .. a voice comms program where you can chat to your gaming friends while you play.

    Where did you read that?

Vent is mostly used by gamers. Although TS is used for that reason too. I'm not sure what's used more but we have both now.

It probably is used for weapon and aircraft testing since it's a good tool, but I know it's not "just" for that.

Oh, this is exciting. I hate our TS. And dili promises me that Vent is much better, so I am all excited about being able to hear jango lounge sing in fantastic quality (WHICH BETTER HAPPEN) and maybe...just maybe... I won't sound like an extremely tiny person :(

    Ventrilo > Teamspeak * 6378564327438291043

This is such good news :D excellentexcellentexcellent...

But yeah, like jango said, Ventrilo is exactly like TeamSpeak - it is a VoIP client. It just had features that make it so much nicer and customizable than TeamSpeak, imo, and it's more Mac and Linux friendly (or at least has been, in the past)

    roger that...

lol missile testing? weird, you'd think they would probably hide communications like that from the public. although I knew a ventrillo guy who used to play Evony involved with the military. He would go all over the country setting up all sorts of servers, computers, etc. Said he got paid boo-koo money!

server is down right now and I believe it has been for a while... what's the status with this?

For anyone looking for a ventrilo server, I found this one that seems pretty decent as a free public server if you need one in a pinch: PublicVentrilo.com [ventrilo] Ventrilo

there are also tons of public servers that you could lurk around until you found one that worked, apparently... pretty easy to find in a google search.

My network stabilized a few days ago so the GF servers should be up soon. But the Vent was sponsored by aizen and he disappeared so I don't think we can look forward to it coming back up soon. So I'll try to set something up temporarily.

There will also be major IP changes - I tried getting out old IP back, but the techs at twc are buffoons and have no idea what I'm talking about so I gave up. Hopefully I'll have the server up in the next few days.

I wish we knew that. Muffin/Dili and myself had to use some random channel today and we got spammed by some dude that didn't even speak english.

    port 7865 or 7875?

7865 is what we were given and that doesn't work, that server was shut down. 7875 (for the same ip) works but that server isn't ours.

7865, I never tried to change ip/port until I decided to try the old server. lol

oO. That doesn't work for me.

Also the old ip is 216.18.194.133. The newest one is what you provided above.

    Weird.

My only question is: Why so quiet?

Ive tried going on there maybe twice or thrice, and everytime there's like nobody on it, despite the forums actually having like 2-3 dousin people on!

Is the whole IRC thing more used I guess?

We don't really use it much, unless a group of us decide to play something together. Then we go on together... it's been down lately, though, so when we tried to use it earlier, it wasn't working :( But it works for you now? I guess he fixed it XD

Well it worked like 2 days ago, thats it =S Im not sure how it works today, tho, and being on someone elses comp, I cant check =(

Since it's been a while since my other post, and since I got new info that's worth bumping for, I think I'm gonna bump this thread.

Port #7865 (The new vent server I think?) Doesn't work. It just rests on Contacting Server....

Whatever vent you're joining, it's not ours. Unless someone made one without my knowledge.

I need to try to manage my time a bit and redo my server. Have to install another OS, used Fedora 8 for too long, might as well do CentOS or something else just to see how they do with voice and game servers.
