vBulletin 3.7.1 is out
This is why I get mad at these cms people. They upgrade every other week.
Well we upgraded to 3.7.0 just over a week ago and yesterday they came up with 3.7.1 which fixes a few bugs and adds on a few more features for the admin so that some of the other modifications are easily manageable. No drastic template changes have been made which I am very happy for but there are still some that has to be changed.
3.7.1 has had some glitches the past few days, that's why I am hesitant to upgrade it right now. It hasn't been a day yet to the release and I like to give things a week or so before upgrading.
As I get more information about 3.7.1 I'll post back and if you have questions about this just ask and I'll see if I can answer.
-
I haven't noticed any glitches in 3.7, what does 3.7.1 fix?

Security Flaws and Data-Loss Bugs
And they'll never tell you specifics on that lol
oh and also, 3.7.1 can't use a php version less than 5.0 and luckily we have the latest
but it was only released yesterday so I don't know what else they fix and many are still confused on why they should upgrade, including me
-
I am happy I never upgraded because 3.7.1 has a huge security bug that they realized and set up a patch just yesterday after a few forums were hacked and shut down, way to go!
I am still not gonna upgrade because they still aren't sure of the rest of the bugs - i already know a few annoying ones for 3.7.0 that I am facing, but its mostly on my end
They may release PL2 (Patch Level 2) of 3.7.1 in a few days if they find another security bug.
-
gahh hackers suck. lol @ them messing up though. Just a thought is vbulletin like the best out there? If so is there anything close to it's level?

well depends on what you mean by "best" because that could be just an opinion - it is one of the most used and safest cms for forums still.
there are others that use javascripts, perl, and even flash forums which are much safer to work with because they are nearly hack proof. but these cms cost a hell of a lot more than vB too.
there is one that has a record of 0 forums hacked, its some other language, forgot what it is but i'll see if i can find it again, i had a huge list of cms on my other pc but i formated the hard drive so no point in looking there, just gotta research again.

I just thought it was the best cause nearly every forum I visited used it.

smf still hosts thousands of forums, yabb is fully perl, nearly impossible to hack cuz its a hard language to learn and it has thousands of users although i doubt it has a lot of boards anymore since its so hard to configure
phpBB is still a large free forum software and it is THE largest free forum software (my stats are coming from 2 years ago though)
and there is also IBP boards which is also paid and decent but not nearly as cool or as safe as vBulletin - and i am sure you have seen all those free forum softwares including invisionfree
they are all different softwares lol - i am part of mostly vbulletin forums too, and usually the vB forums are the ones that have been going for a while because they are paid - im not saying free forums aren't great, vb just out does all free boards out there in usability, modifications, looks, and safety
-
ya I've seen basically all you've mentioned just not nearly in the number that Vbulletin..perhaps I'm in the wrong section of the internetz...and ya invisionfree...I have about 20 failed forums through it
-
I don't think it's necussary to begin to upgrade it now, well yeah like you said wait for next week if there have any updates. xD

yeah, i might wait until july actually because vb has been disappointing me lately with all the bugs and stuff, hopefully they bring out 3.7.2 by then and get rid of the patch levels
*this is the 1337th post of the General Computer Talk Forum :)*

vBulletin yesterday announced that their Patch Level 1 (PL1) version of 3.7.1 had a huge security bug costing some people their forum because they were hacked and raped.
Yesterday vBulletin announced vBulletin 3.7.1 PL2 which supposedly takes care of the Second Security bug that PL1 SUPPOSEDLY Fixed.
I will not be upgrading to that any time soon until they figure out whey there are so many security bugs and why my admin panel keeps on refreshing by itself.
Really disappointing because just a few weeks ago , vbulletin increased the prices for both owned and leased licenses about 20% if I am not mistaken.
-
Holy moly.
How can they release updates like that if there not sure if it even works or not?
That's way too much risk, especially if your paying for their program.
They shouldn't be releasing it until they know it works.
Buttheads.
-
lol a 20% price increase? that sucks, so do you have to pay more? i know its a yearly renewal so i dont know when you got your license
-
i dont have to pay it now, i renewed my license a month before they put the whole increase in renewal license in effect lol - i had to so it wasn't like i did it just to escape the extra fees - my license was about to expires
-
As I had predicted, vBulletin 3.7.2 was released earlier today promising to fix all bugs and as always, I am not about to upgrade, not yet at least. I still have to give it a week or two to make sure everything is fine without any complaints because the last thing I want is more trouble.
Now vBulletin requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later versions in order to work properly. It may not work at all if your server is not upgraded properly in the PHP and MySQL Area.
More files have also been added to 3.7.2 to make it a bit more secure and more bug free (as they claim)
-
I'd like to see that, lol.
Is it even worth doing all these little upgrades?
I mean, can't we just wait for the next big release?

like 3.8? Sure, but those come out like once a year lol
and these little updates help when it comes to fixing glitches and making new modifications work

vb 3.7.2 turns out to be a stable install, so far, no complaints of forums being hacked and no bugs were detected yet
one bug was with registration but only one person reported it
i may try a test install on my pc this coming weekend and let you guys know how it turns out, if everything goes fine, the upgrade will take place on this live forum within a few days

lol its true because every once in a while they have a small patch update - i dont post about those as much, i mentioned it here a few times because those are the ones that fixed security holes that allowed hackers to shut down a few forums
-
I know i was supposed to go through the upgrade process over the weekend as a trial. But I didn't for a very good reason.
My webmaster intuition said something isn't right and early this morning I go an email from the vBulletin staff saying there was a security glitch in 3.7.2 and a few boards suffered from attackers which is sad.
So anyways...my faith in vBulletin is going down the drain these days and it seems we'll be on vb 3.7.0 for a while at least..Sux
-
wonder what is up with them lately..

Sure does look like their slipping. wonder how many customers they are losing to this
-
well I knew they'd find bugs in 3.7.2 and they did, they are releasing more and more patches which is annoying. I would rather not install them because even the patches seem to have bugs which is annoying.
3.7.2 PL2 was announced earlier today - kind of sad they figured out a bug after almost a month of releasing 3.7.2 PL1 version

not really, they say they fix bugs but for every bug they fix, they seem to find 3 more which is really bad of them
-
vBulletin announced vb 3.7.3 about 2 weeks ago, they released their PL1 version of that as a fix to MORE security holes and MORE bugs...amazing. I am paying for useless updates lol
