Okay lets do this
I need to figure out whats going on with this desktop, because my brother is blaming me for everything wrong with it lol.
"CAUSE YOU DOWNLOAD ALL THE MUSIC"
I've never used this computer to download music.
The Problem: When playing games (offline and online) there will be periods of lag that last around 1 minute. There doesn't seem to be any trigger, or any particular pattern as to when it happens. At the beginning it seemed to only be an online problem, but now its both online and offline. My drivers are up to date, I'm running AVG and its found nothing, Spybot found some malware but removed it.
Specs:
AMD Phenom(tm) 8450 Triple-Core Processor
4gb memory/RAM
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 6001), 64-bit
GeForce 9100
Realtek High Definition Audio
It's an HP pavilion p6152f pc
notes: untrustworthy sites have more than likely been visited. Computer not maintained all that well. In fact when I checked on it today it was covered in dust. B | and the bugger blames ME. pff
Any help would be much appreciated. I would like to avoid sending it in to the best buy geeksquad because they're about as helpful as 'apple geniuses'.

ctrl+alt+del during your games and look at your CPU and Memory usage. See if any of them are unusually high and if they are, you can narrow down the problem.
Also try turning off AVG because virus scanning softwares are known to cause certain type of lag for computers.
-
The only process that looks high in memory is svchost.exe SYSTEM 127,232k Host Process for Windows Services
and warcraft is running at 180,056k
and the only process that has a high cpu is system idle process, averaging 90.
Haven't tried to play a game without AVG yet. But will do <:
thanks for you help Linux, hopefully I can get to the bottom of this D:

Yeah, AVG can be a pain sometimes. Hopefully that works.
-
hah, I cant seem to shut all of avg down.
Theres still the
-AVG cache Server
-AVG Scanning Core Module - server part
-AVG Resident Shield Service
I could end the AVG Cache Server, but the other two wont die D:
[EDIT]
Okay, then when I shut down Warcraft, they all disappeared..

Try to rerun the game and see if those things come back on. They could attach themselves to your games and cause the lag. Just a theory.
Do you happen to have an on board graphics card?
-
probably all his porn surfing/dling -_-
-
Started the game back up, they didn't return.
I'mmmm not sure if I do? D: hahaaa.. how would I find that out?
lol hes just been using me as a scapegoat lately so probably his fault, since it is basically his computer.

Well, is the 9100gt an addon card? And perhaps asking your brother might help.
Also download speedfan or a similar program and look at he temperatures for your hardware. I used to lag in most games after playing for 20-30 minutes because the graphics card kept overheating. For several months I thought another program was interfering or something but it turned out the GPU was overheating.

Well I found a way that might just work.
Download this software. What does the software do is stop any background programs that running on your computer while you play game. So that mean whenever you play games on your pc, the software will stop background programs that might cause your games to lag and slow. Or the software also allow you to choose manually a background programs that you wanna stop during you start the game. TRY IT! And it's free! Game Booster | Fast Game Accelerator | Free Accelerator
