i had an IBM think pad b4 this and my god that thing was expensive, But built like a tank. IBM was bought out.

Core 2 Duo Lappys are in a good spot for buying now. You could go for an i3, i5, or i7 lappy but I feel like ther a bit spendy still (JMO). If you want to game as Subb was asking look for one with a graphics card... Not needed in alot of cases but nice with a 15" or 17" monitor for gaming. Bundled software is nice too but watch out for bloatware.

go for msi cx420 its cheap but pretty powerful. just bought mine this week. its very quiet and doesnt heat up..its been ON since the day I bought it and no sign of problems.
