Photoshop elements is only $80 which is a lot cheaper compared to the CS versions. You can try that out here: Adobe - Adobe Photoshop Elements 8

Photoshop is not free , But it is worth every penny if you know how to use it . You can do some really amazing things with the program. I would just save some money and buy a CS Package . I have CS4, It works great for me .

Lawl. Photoshop ain't free. And the trial only lasts 30 days. It's also.. not so basic. x_x It takes a little usage and knowledge to do good with it.

But there's a TON of online tutorials to help you get started. But yeah... Photoshop isn't free...

Sort of, yeah. I'm sure GIMP is a downgraded version of PS, though.
