that's like asking what the best guitar in the world is. There are so many good ones -.- Some PS1 rpg's are fantastic too. I'm going to recommend both on my personal playthroughs, but also games that have a lot of critical acclaim that i haven't played

    PS1:
    Final Fantasy series
    Xenogears
    Legend of Dragoon
    Parasite Eve series
    Suikoden Series
    Dragon Quest series

    PS2:
    Xenosaga series
Shin Megami Tensei series (theres a ton of games in it)
    Final Fantasy series
    .hack series
    Rogue Galaxy
    Radiata Stories
    Suikoden Series
    Shadow Hearts series
Star Ocean Til the end of Time
    Disgaea series
    Kingdom Hearts series

    Gamecube:
    Tales of series

PS2 has more RPGs than this gen has had shooters...

Shadow Hearts series and Disgaea for sure are worth checking out. On the Gamecube Tales of Symphonia is probably the best value for your buck.

Ps2 has a lot of RPGs to be honest. I have a lot of obscure and rare games Like Wizardry that I really enjoy.

Tales of Series is a given and Symphonia on the Game cube is arguably the Best Tales of Game to date.

As for another series no one mentioned, Persona series is really good.

Persona series is part of the Shin Megami Tensei series. There's also Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, and i'm sure some others, I just mentioned Shin Megami Tensei as general, but yes, the Persona series in particular is a popular part of the Shin Megami Tensei series.

I'm getting caught up with old posts again

Eps, I want to + you for that post but can't I wanna bold and highlight .hack on your list though... I'll admit I don't know many of the others on the list but the story and premise to that game are engrossing and incredibly unique, respectively. Gameplay was great too, iirc. Enough strategy in the fighting between your spells, normal attacks, hacking, and various elemental advantages to keep it interesting; and just the right amount of diversity of other gameplay elements like raising those pets (I forget what they were called.)

Tales of Symphonia. Hands down, no comparison to me. I fell in love with that game, and it's still one of the few RPGs to date I can sit down and play over and over again <3
