So, I'm gonna make a list of essential (or at least, highly recommended) RPG's by system. I'll start off with my opinion of RPG's i've played, but people feel free to chime in to make this a better list. Any systems you feel I should add, also chime in.

Links may or may not contain spoilers in text and/or picture form.
If you're having trouble deciding whether a game is an RPG or not, THESE THREE VIDEOS might help.

I personally wouldn't consider assassin's creed an RPG by any means, but then again i haven't played it personally (i've watched people play enough to say this) If other people disagree and say it's an RPG, i'll add it.

    i'll add .hack though.

Ummm, I don't see how Assassins Creed doesn't fit the bill of an RPG? You assume the role of a fictional character, what else is there?

I would class it as a near-sandbox, action adventure game. It's a bit too different from general RPG games, to be an RPG game.

Well Kingdom Hearts is about as close to an RPG as Assassins Creed. And I would consider it near-sandbox.

Yes but in Kingdom Hearts, you have allies, you can level up, with attributes going up as well. You don't pick them, but it is the same idea. You also can choose equipment with plenty of options.
