need video editor
so my er.. free version of Win7 64 did not come with a video editor of any sort. And I have tried a few different ones such as pinnacle. But I have a widescreen monitor whoes native ratio Im not sure about (bought second hand) and pinnacle formats my screen capture videos into a square making it look terrible and text unreadable.
Im messing around with options but Im not sure how to fix this or if I could just find a more intelligent video editor somewhere.
To elaborate further on the videospin problem, when I record something in fraps I can view it with WMP in full detail with no problem. However when I open it with video spin it sets the aspect ratio to 4:3 as default. This compresses the widescreen view into a box and when I manually select a widescreen presentation or select an imported clip and select a 16:9 ratio it simply stretches the compressed view back out, so you still lose your picture detail. (rather than simply use the original format of the clip)
I have messed with he settings a number of times and Im not sure what all the settings do, but I cant find any way to fix this problem.

I really just need something basic that will let me crop video and add an extra sound line and keep close to the original quality. Nothing complex. I cant really justify the cost of some of the software out there, and dont really want to spend a large amount, if any, on a program that windows movie maker would be able to do just fine.
Could I just copy over wmm from my laptop running xp somehow?

Doesn't Windows 7 come with Windows Movie Maker? If not, try Sony Vegas (HD or HD Platinum), both are under 100 bucks.

I use Sony vegas. if your Computer doesn't have WMM you can download it for free on Microsoft.

I personally use Adobe's Premiere Pro. Not sure how much it costs stand-alone.
