Also has the site always have text-fields blacked out?

What do you mean text fields blacked out? It blacks out the title area when I make another thread, but that's it. Is that the problem? If so, you could probably switch your skin on the site. Or somebody could go into the admin panel and edit the code for the skin..

Yeah, the blacking of the text when editing can be changed I think.
