    Default New digital camera suggestions?

Anyone know a lot about digital cameras?

I might get one soon, but I'm not sure what to go for since I don't know too much about cameras.

Someone suggested the Olympus Stylus 720 SW (The Olympus Mju)

Here's a link to the cnet review:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/Olympus_Styl...-31675516.html

I know cnet gives it a 6.8, but User Reviews puts it over 8.0. It seems like the users enjoy it... and the editors aren't satisfied because there aren't a lot of manual control options.... but since I'm no camera expert I figure I won't need em. I want something I can point and shoot, and for it to come out good... not blurry, and the colors look vivid, with correctly proportioned light/exposure. any other suggestions on another camera or maybe what I should be looking for?

i dont know too much about digital cameras either but that one seems good, 7.1 megapixels is a lot, my current digital camera is 5.0 megapixels and cost $200 or $249, dont remember exactly. im sure its a great camera but u should also look at pricing, there may be some better ones that are cheaper.

u should look for megapixels really, more pixels equals more clear pics. u dont need too much tho lol, i say 4.0 is enough, i dont know why i got a 5.0 one, well it was my mom that got it lol. Look for pricing and the zooming feature. the more it zooms in the better, thats my opinion lol. look for easy to use cameras, dont buy those with the 10 million options that'll take u a month to figure out what each one does lol.

i think there is a sony one where u can move and take the pic and it wont be blurry and it'll look perfect, forgot which version, i'll try to look for it,

Many of the Sony T-series have the image stabiliation that allows for very clear pictures even at slow shutter speeds, which is very nice... they also look pretty badass being extremely thin... Sony T30 i think is the latest. Anyway, megapixels do not automatically add up to clear pics... clear pictures are determined by lens quality, stability, light settings, etc. I have an old cannon powershot a10 with 1.3 MP from maybe 2001-2002 and it still took better pics than my samsung something with 5.0 MP that was bought last year.

Megapixels are just the resolution of a picture, the more megapixels, the bigger you can make your picture without the pixels getting distorted... 10MP+ cameras are great for blowing up pics to poster-sized pictures, for example.

yes i know that, but mp also means that if u lessen the image size, the pixels will look clearer, cannon is a great camera maker lol, most of their cameras are amzaing quality and features, mine is sony and it eats up battery power like a fat man eating pizza. i need a new one too.

i know some people that use high mp cameras to blow up pics in their computer and use photoshop to do some effects on the pics, and when they do zoom, it looks perfectly clear, lets just say we r both right lol btw, my camera was bought a year and a half ago

SLRs are nice, but not what I'm looking for. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate the suggestion, that's what I'm looking for after all, but I'm looking for more of a "go anywhere" kinda camera (vacation, outdoor, party, etc)

what about customer reviews? look for cameras and see if the customer reviews are good, i dont know how u would search for where someone recommends a "go anywhere" camera lol, but if u have time, u can look at the ones u think are good and look at reviews, thats what i do if im gonna buy something expensive, IF they have reviews that is

Yeah I know, if you look at my first post I noted the user reviews. A lot of people don't make reliable reviewers though. 1) They might not be competent enough with cameras to know what constitutes "good", and 2) their needs might not match mine. Although some reviews are helpful.. and I do take those into account.

lol aosmallan is right, not all people make good reviewers lol, like me, i dont know too much about digital cameras, if it works for me and i know how to work it, i'll recommend it, give it the best review in the world even if its the crappiest camera in the world lol, but other stuffs like games or computers, i can give u OK reviews now since i know more about them lol
