    Default Battlefield: Bad Company

    Do EA DICE With death in this new shooter?

    The Battlefield series has been doing the same online war thing for some time - and very well, I might add. But it's going to take a lot to tempt people away from Call of Duty 4. So, brush aside the single-player mode (Which essentially acts as your training and a method to establish the story - some hokum about fighting alongside the collection of expendable misfits known as the B-Company who go AWOL after discovering mercenaries hoarding stashes of gold)) and get stuck into what Bad Company was primarily designed for.

    Developer DICE certainly know their online options; a progressive learning curve, well-balanced and defined soldier classes and vehicles, huge maps and the feeling that you aren't going to be taken out by a sniper two miles away as soon as you respawn. The points system is also rewarding, allowing you to develop your character and get a score on the board even if you aren't the teams top killer.

    So, are the legions of fans of Infinity Wars epic likely to try this? Well, it's a matter of taste. The action in Battlefield Bad Company is overblown with a degree of holywood implausibility and, while this is great when you see choppers hurtld overhead, mortars and grenades blasting chunks out of buildings and columns of tanks rumbling towards an objective, it lacks some of the heart pounding intensity of COD4. While COD4 offers smaller scale on-foot skirmishes, Battlefield Bad Company is an all out war. It would be fairer to compare it to Frontlines; Fules of War and with that in mind, Bad Company is the more sophisticated shooter. In fact, probably the best in it's particular genre.

    The best bit; You cant beat thd old 'Stab him with a knife from behind' for a satisfying online kill.

    Scoring;

    Graphics:

    Despite the frantic nature of war, Bad Company runs smoothly and looks great.
    90/100

    Gameplay;
    Not as intense as the close combat of COD4. But offers war on a colossal scale.
    90/100

    Lifespan;
    The limited online modes should hopefully be rectified with extra DLC.
    90/100

    Final Score;
    Bad Company is no big evolution but it delivers a tempting alternative to Modern Combat.
    90/100
