Well, there's the original 20GB and 60GB, which cost way over their shelf prices to develop. Then they took out all of the PS2 hardware to make the 80GB. Then they took out 2 USB ports, all ps2 compatability, and something else for the 40GB. But on the plus side, the 40GB runs WAY cooler than the 20, 60, and 80. Now they're making an 80GB with the exact same features as the 40GB.
So the PS3 went from good and expensive to not so good and still somewhat expensive.
