Whether it be to stop a monster from busting through or keep the players playing. I would say Runescape is like this, they just try to get people to play it. If you max out of every skill and do everything, you still will play because you may not have enough money, but that would be very boring. Eh, in a sense, all games have the same point, to keep people playing.
OMG! Farmville and Runescape! Two games I used to be addicted to! I have to agree with the points you made about the aforementioned games.
I have interesting stories about Runescape. To sum up why I no longer play the game, I stopped playing because the game became Socialist. Jagex, the creator of the game, became involved with every aspect of trading, placing restrictions on how much you can profit from trading. Their reasoning was the high number of scams occuring on Runescape. Jagex ruined the "company" I had running on Runescape with their ridiculous policies. I will never forgive Jagex and will never return to playing Runescape.
