Avoiding unnecessary thread bumps
I made this thread because in the last week or so there's been quite a few threads that have been bumped unnecessarily. I want this to weed out the old "New Gamers" posts from months/years ago that are being bumped for no reason, as well as a few other posts being bumped that, well shouldn't have been. Maybe this can get a sticky so other new members can see this.
I'm gonna show everyone how to change your forum view in this post. The forum default is to show every post..well ever. But we don't really need that now do we?
First you want to go to the User CP bar on the right of the page. Look at the menu bar on the left and click the "General settings" button.

Scroll down until you see this box. You can change the default thread age cutoff! I use one month but I suggest you put it to 2/3 months old at the LATEST.

The topics are dead and havn't been discussed in over 2/3 months. They don't really need to be bumped back up again, as discussion on the issue has died out. If you're posting a new thread and you are unsure about if it has had an old discussion, you can still use the search feature, just change the parameter to all threads for the search. This is an okay reason to bump, but again, I made this tutorial to avoid unnecessary bumps.

in tandem, protip: check the date on the posts you're replying to before posting in a thread.

Any chance of getting this stickied so that it won't in some sick ironic way, fall below 3 months old and someone bumps this? xD It wouldn't be bad for future reference of new members, either.

I stickied it for you ^^
Thanks for making this thread

Yeah no problem Seen that the mods were having to close old threads and remind people to check dates constantly, so I thought this would help out!

So is bumping the "don't bump" thread ok? :P

I suppose so. It's just ridiculously ironic xD

I've updated my main post as the forum layout has changed, and am bumping this. It needs to be seen again, as there has been a ton of necro-bumping lately. I know it's stickied already, but that doesn't seem to be helping out much. I'm gonna try and bump this every 6-8 weeks so it is seen by new members.

Is it possible for Linux to set the cut-off date as a default? That would probably solve a lot of necro-bumping problems
