Newbie Gamer
Hi, I am Dave and I am a newbie gamer, if I am allowed to call myself that. I have friends that are true gamers and I was never one to enjoy video games, I guess I am a serious person and thought playing games was a waste of time and I needed to focus on real life.
Last year I had a very serious car accident and was hospitalized for almost three months. During my rehabilitation I was getting bored and was always worrying about my health, my job and anything else that would cross my mind. My friend John suggested playing some games online or on my computer to pass time and to give my mind a rest from trying to solve the unsolvable. I did not know were to start and again John gave me a suggestion. I was introduced to World of Warcraft. I have to admit I got pretty irritated with the game at first, I did not understand a lot (still learning) and I would get confused easlily. The head trama I was recovering from did not help matters. I gave up after getting lost in the game...not lost having fun, but lost in the way that I could not get back to where I had started. After I got out of the hospital and back to work I wondered if I should give the game another chance. I did and after playing with a group of my friends at the same time I started to learn more and started to have FUN.
I still do not play as much as my friends do, but I finally see what the benefit gaming provides. It gives me an excape from problems and a place to be someone else for a bit. I do enjoy WOW, but I think I want to explore more games. I thought joining a forum would be a great way to learn more about games and maybe meet someone like myself that is new to this whole thing.

Welcome to GF, read the rules and have fun.
you seem alright and may I greet you into the world of gaming
There are many people on this forum that got different gaming habits, maybe you can learn something from them.

Plus you get to beat the crap out of all of your friends that you can't beat the crap out of in real life.

Welcome Dave! Sorry to hear about the accident, hope all is going better now. While the cause of you coming into gaming was by far probably not how you envisioned it, Im glad you see the positive side to it. I also don't think you could have picked a better place to learn of all things gaming!
First, I will say that it -is- possible to be a gamer and also focus on real life While there are people that take it to extremes, like still living in your parents basement at 40 because you'd rather game then work, most people are aware that life has other prorities that will always come first. However, it is definitely a great way to escape reality and just relax.
As for exploring different games, Im sure we can recommend you some great ones based on what you are looking for. There's even more 'serious' games out there if that's what you wanted.
Anways! Glad to have you here. Don't be shy, feel free to ask questions and see you around!

Welcome, Dave!! May I just roll out the red carpets and welcoming you into the world of gaming. 'Tis a very mystical land!
I'm sorry about your accident! Like, Mizel, I hope you're doing much better now.
You know something? I've never played WOW, yet it seems that's how a LOT of people were introduced to video games! haha Anyway, feel free to ask questions and sound like a noob (cause everyone, whether they deny it or not, was a noob at one point).
What genres would you be interested in playing? Strategy, action/adventure, shoot-em-up, sports, board, mystery? There's more but my brain is lazy this morning... And we can for sure suggest tons of games for you to try out!
Hope to see you around more!!
..would you kill to save a life?

Welcome to GF Dave, I know where you're coming from with games and the health thing. I've had health problems since childhood which was a very very long time ago. Games have helped survived many a painful or down day. But I do play games also because I just love gaming.

Welcome Dave! I hope your doing well now!
And I'm glad to see you enjoying games, I've never played WOW myself so I can't say much. But I was thinking of starting when I get my own laptop.
Maybe we could play sometime?
Everyone here is friendly (including myself) so I assume we can help you out with gaming suggestions and possibly play some games with you.
Enjoy the forums!
