I don't know if this helps, but you could try starting the game with uPlay. I played AC2 and wanted to continue with Brotherhood but didn't want to buy it. A friend of mine came over and installed it on my computer; to start it I don't need the CD, logging into his Ubisoft account and starting the game is enough. It's the same with Skyrim and Steam by the way, you don't need the CD either.
