What do you mean set a cut-off date? What would happen when the date is reached?

I think he means the post cut-off. Right now you can set it yourself so browsing the forums doesn't show anything older than a month, 2 months, 6 months, etc.

Is there any way of setting that to a default for all new users?

Oh I think there is. I'll look for the option later and see if I can find it. I remember seeing it in our old version of vB, haven't looked in the new one yet. Will let you guys know.
